My Mad Fat Diary is a British telly series that tells the tragic and humorous story of a troubled young girl Rae Earl. The story starts when the 16-year-old Rae Earl’s departure from the psychiatric hospital, when she began keeping a daily diary to document her troubled thoughts and focuses on her desire to make friends and her obsession with guess what, losing her virginity. Yes! She begins to reconnect with her best friend Chloe and her group, who are unaware of Rae’s mental health and body image problems, believing she was in France for the past four months. She attempts to keep this information from her while also trying to impress Chloe’s friends Izzy, Archie, Chop and Finn.
Here are the reasons why I love My Mad Fat Diary:
- Rae Earl and I are mostly alike I guess. Well, to the fact the she loves music and I too, we both love eating (she used to binge eat), and we both have body image issues.
- I do feel like an outcast sometimes. This is the introvert in me talking.
- And oh, I used to have a diary too, but I burned in anyhow.
- One word: Oasis!!!
- I saw a character that was not just a work of fiction, a character I could connect with. I can somehow see myself in Rae Earl, I have mental health issues too. We somehow all have, right?
- I love how she expresses her feelings and thoughts in her diary. For instance, from guys to what she thinks about the world to suspecting that some of her friends aren’t really her friends and so much more! She has a witty and clever thinking.
- It is based on the 90’s! Just because 90's kids rock!
- It shows her adventure of over-coming her downfall and her trying to bounce back to being accepted for who she really is.
My Mad Fat Diary will surely give you a lot life lessons. I certainly learned a lot! I am very very excited for the season 3 this 2015. *Fingers Crossed*
