Hello from the other side!
Monday, February 15, 2016
It's sometimes (or mostly) a struggle to think of a title to every post, so here I am getting the title of this post from Adele's song 'Hello'. How original, self. But since i'm literally on the other side of the world right now, I guess it seems appropriate. So hello from the other side... Hello from Kuwait!
After days of boring visa transactions in Manila, I am now finally in Kuwait with my love. If you're asking why Kuwait, my love is an Arab and he's a Kuwaiti.
Anyway, here's a story... My first day here was spent on sleeping and eating Arabian food with the husband. During that night we had grocery shopping, and side-by-side with my love we picked some items and food so that we can settle in our apartment. I can't seem to ignore the looks of the people especially Arab women. Their looks are would usually go from Ali to me and then they would frown a bit, and there's this girl after looking at us she whispered something to someone older than her and the woman looked at me with a bit of disgust. I was shocked and a bit broken hearted. I realised that what I've heard back home was somewhat true, that Arabs really treat Filipinos as minorities or as low class. But I have no intentions to stereotype, i'm not closing my doors yet, I know that there are still humble and down-to-earth Arabs out there, I just have not seen them yet.
I've been here for a week now but I haven't seen the most of Kuwait yet, maybe tomorrow or the day after that, who knows. As of now i'm enjoying the view from our apartment window: the sun peeking from tall buildings during early mornings, the birds resting on our window and flies away every time I come near them, and watching cars come roaring on the road as they pass by.
Hello from the other side! Hello to new places and adventures!

Thank you so much, Augustin. :) Only temporarily, will be staying for a month to process some papers.
DeleteHello too from the same side of the world! Different country though. I don't know about the Kuwait women but here in KSA mostly I've met are nice and friendly or maybe because I am generous with a smile. Life in Arab countries are quite different compared to our lives back in the Phil, but surely you'll get by.
ReplyDeleteHello! :) Yes maybe I was just a bit culture-shocked. Maybe I should get out there more. And I hope I'll get by as days go by.
DeleteHello Joyce! Don't mind them na lang :) What's important is you're with the love of your life naman :) Good day!
ReplyDeleteI will... thank you, Romie
DeleteIt really saddens me to hear stories like this na iba talaga ang pag treat nila sa mga Filipinos. :( Haaaay. Anyway, thank goodness you arrived safe in Kuwait Joyce! Sana makapunta din ako dyan. Actually I want to visit the less-travelled countries din kasi. hehe. pero soon na! Hindi pa afford ngayon. HAHA

DeleteHaha I'm always singing Adele's Hello too; you can bet that I cross every crosswalk singing hello from the other side ;) Happy belated Valentine's Day! I'm sorry to hear about your interaction with the people there, but it seems like you've handled it with grace. Stay strong! :) -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

ReplyDeleteYes, arabian food is delish! I'm always in heaven whenever we eat one. How was it? Growing up in Saudi?
DeleteReserved for the most part but the close community makes it special. :)
DeleteI've been to Saudi for 2 days, in Maj Maah, I can see it's way more conservative than Kuwait. But I dunno in Riyadh tho.
